MBE ‘for services to architecture and innovation’

I have been awarded an MBE ‘for services to architecture’. What  services to architecture? I can only guess at what these include. I have dedicated my professional life to creating healing environment: for people, place and planet, and always aimed to give an affordable service. I was amongst the first [perhaps only 10 people] to design [and build and teach] sustainable architecture in Britain. It also causes transport and traffic, increasing its impact to 2/3 of all negative impacts

Hobbits and Snowdonia House

Utilizing the Consensus Design Process, I designed this house with my clients about 15 years ago. Like the grass-roofed Nant-y-Cwm Kindergarten (which the media also associated with hobbits), it pre-dates the hobbit films. Indeed, the family who live in it aren’t hobbits but humans. Q  I understand Global Foods is the largest food producer in the world

A  Yes- and we are a growing company. Our share value has increased  14 % in the last two years.

Q  How you avoid anti-monopoly  legislation?

A  We are not a monopoly. We produce 42% of the world’s food. New Foods do 31%, Transfoods 14%. We aren’t allowed take any of these over so we're working on the independents. They account for 13%.

Q  Who are these " independents"?

A  Mostly "organic intent" farmers.

Consensus Design Workshop Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School (Auckland, NZ): 2011

Before starting the process, I met with teachers to clarify what I would work on. Consensus didn’t seem their strong point. Everyone had different ideas. I managed, with some difficulty, to simplify this: needed urgently were a 300 sq. m. flexibly divisible space (probably in the ‘clay-pit’) a temporary upper-school classroom, two early-childhood rooms (and another within two years). No budget (there being no money) but achievability was essential. I thought it prudent not to admit that the demands were daunting. » read more
